His Excellency
Dr. Kayode FAYEMI
Governor, Ekiti State, following the Breach of Peace in the State
Friday, September 26, 2014.
In o kun o Ekiti Kete.
It
has become expedient that I address you today on account of dire
happenings in the land of honour, Ekiti State. With tension mounting
across the state, Ekiti has been the subject of alarming headlines in
the news, following the tragic assault on the judiciary.
On
Monday, September 22, thugs acting on the incitement of an interested
party, were involved in the sacrilegious sacking of the court while
hearing on a political case was in progress.
This
happened in full glare of the law enforcement agents with inappropriate
response. Clearly, these brigands exceeded the limits of acceptable
behavior, even in the most liberal of democracies, and ventured into the
realm of blatant criminality with this desecration of the hallowed
chambers of the law.
The fact that this assault did not meet with any strong deterring repercussions from the appropriate authorities further emboldened the miscreants. They subsequently attempted to prevent the Ekiti State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal from sitting, yesterday, Thursday, September 25. I am advised incontrovertibly that thugs acting on the command of Mr. Ayo Fayose, who was also present to lend his clout to the travesty, brazenly assaulted a senior judge and urged his thugs to beat him up and tear his clothes.
The court premises was thrown into confusion and those present scurried away in search of safety and security. This was on the back of his specious allegation that the judiciary in the state is compromised and biased against him. And the answer to that was to resort to jungle justice and take the laws into his hands. This has led to the closure of the courts indefinitely due to the inability of the security agencies to guarantee the safety of lives and property in our temples of justice. With the entrenched atmosphere of impunity, violence in the state has escalated with the unfortunate loss of one life and the willful damage to several properties to arson by rampaging thugs.

With the entrenched atmosphere of impunity, violence in the state has escalated with the unfortunate loss of one life and the willful damage to several properties to arson by rampaging thugs.
Since the beginning of this development on Monday,
which is unprecedented in the recent history of our state, I have been
in touch with the Heads of all Security Agencies at the State and
Federal levels, urging them to act quickly and firmly in the interest of
public law and order. It is worrisome that the slow and inadequate
response has occasioned the avoidable escalation of violence in our dear
state.
Against this backdrop, it is understandable that not a few stakeholders have expressed concern about what the development portends for our dear state. The brazen contempt of our hallowed law courts and the use of violence and intimidation to obstruct the course of justice is a clear invitation to anarchy of the scale and texture that characterized Ekiti State some years ago. Ekiti Kete, are those years upon us again?

Ekiti Kete, are those years upon us again?
Already,
there is widespread anxiety about this development coming at a time the
state is going through the transitioning out of one administration and
the ushering in of a new one. This is a very delicate period that all
stakeholders must work together to ensure Ekiti State comes out stronger
for it.
During
periods of transition, vital partners in progress adopt a cautious
posture, watching for the slightest portents of the possible
discontinuity of the regime of peace and tranquility, amongst other
factors that have made our state conducive for investors and development
partners. We must not disrupt our very bright prospects for sustained
development in our state.
Considering
the cases that have triggered the recent spate of violence are
politically related, the political elite in our state from all disparate
quarters must exercise caution. We must rescue our state from the
precarious slippery slope that some have desperately pushed us to. We
should not imperil the very people we seek to serve by resorting to
violence and brigandage. One does not burn down his homestead to
establish his claim of ownership or leadership.
Most
assuredly, the course of Justice can only be delayed, but can never be
truncated. The independence of the Judiciary is an inviolable tenet of
any democracy. Accordingly, I have this morning directed the Attorney
General of the state to issue a legal advisory to the Chief Judge of the
state and all the parties to the existing cases in the State High Court
and the Ekiti State Governorship Elections Petitions Tribunal, on the
desirability of seeking an alternative venue for the hearing of these
cases outside Ekiti State. The State can no longer afford to witness the
bizarre spectacle of the beating up of judicial officers and wanton
intimidation of lawyers and court personnel.
Now
that the security agencies appear to be fully seized of the situation, I
call on them not to relent in performing their constitutional role of
protecting lives and property in our state.
Administrations
come and go; politics can be frenetic when the stakes are high; but by
the grace of the Almighty God, our state remains for all time, therefore
THE PEACE OF OUR LAND IS NOT NEGOTIABLE.
Ekiti
Kete, consistent with our history of unity and love, let us work
together to make our state a garden of concord where our children and
their children will dwell in peace and safety. Even in the pursuit of
politics and justice, let us conduct ourselves as kinsmen, bound by a
shared love for Ekitiland but differing only in the choice of
instruments by which to accomplish the same goal.
Let us then temper our competitive zeal with civility and empathy. Let us deal truthfully with our youth, who are so liable to be led astray by unbridled political fervour, by seeing them as our children rather than as conscripts or fodder for our objectives.
Let us then temper our competitive zeal with civility and empathy. Let us deal truthfully with our youth, who are so liable to be led astray by unbridled political fervour, by seeing them as our children rather than as conscripts or fodder for our objectives.
Ekiti
Kete, in order to forestall further descent into anarchy in our state, I
am taking the very difficult decision to suspend the ‘Thank You’ tour
which I’m undertaking as part of our transitioning-out formalities.
Also, I have taken the decision to institute a dusk to dawn curfew in
the state immediately. Accordingly, there would be no movement between
the hours of 7.00 p.m. and 7.00 a.m.
everyday till further notice. We urge the citizenry to be vigilant and
provide the security agencies with details of suspicious activities that
can undermine the peace in our state.
Let
us work together to stop the violence and brigandage that has brought
about serious embarrassment to our state in the last few days.
Let Peace Reign in the land of honour, Ekiti State.

A 23 year old prostitute named Rosemary Ebikeme has been sentenced to
100 days in prison by an Abuja court for stealing a customer's $3,200
(about N500,000).
The senior magistrate, Abdulahi Ilaleh, of Life Camp Senior magistrate’s court, Abuja, convicted Rosemary after she pleaded guilty to a one-count charge, however, gave her an option of N5,000 fine.
Ilaleh cautioned the convict to desist from the crime, saying that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others. Continue...
Prosecutor Ona Odigiri had told the court that on September 4 one Aleixandre Sachir of Tack Continental Estate, Life Camp, reported the matter to Life Camp Police Station. The prosecutor further told the court that the complainant met the convict in a cinema hall and took her to Waxride Hotel. He said the convict stole $3,200 from the complainant on September 2 and eloped.
Odigiri said that when the convict came back to complain on September 4, she was apprehended and handed over to the police. The convict, however, pleaded guilty to the charge and begged the court to temper justice with mercy. She said: “Please have mercy on me; I am a student and I am only looking for money to pay my school fees. I stole the money to do business so that I will stop selling my body for money. Please forgive me. “I stole the money from him, even though he paid me N5,000 for my service, please have mercy in God’s name.”
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 288 of the Penal Code Law.

This pretty 26 year old woman, Chantae Gilman, is being accused of breaking into her neighbour's house and raping him.
From TheSmokingGun
The man said that on the night of the attack he attended a birthday party for the neighbor whom Gilman knows. “Once arriving home he fell asleep on his bed,” Detective Roger Ishimitsu reported. “Victim slept very hard due to a long day.”
At 2 AM, the man told cops, he awoke to find the 5’ 7”, 240-pound Gilman on top of him. The victim said that his erect penis was inside Gilman, who had the man's “hands pinned down over his head,” as first reported by the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.
While Gilman ignored demands to get off him, the man said, he was “able to work his way out from underneath" her. Gilman, he added, had “told him to be quiet.” The man subsequently succeeded in pushing Gilman from his home. Later that day, he went to the Harborview Medical Center for a sexual assault examination.
Court records do not reveal how Gilman got into the victim’s apartment.
When questioned by cops, Gilman denied knowing the victim and said she did not recall being at his home or having sex with him. “She said that she has a mental illness and suffers from Bipolar disorder and Psychosis,” wrote Detective Ishimitsu.
A DNA sample collected from Gilman matched that of female DNA that was recovered from the victim’s sexual assault kit. As a result, Gilman was named in a September 8 criminal information charging her with second-degree rape for assaulting a victim who was “incapable of consenting to sexual intercourse by reason of being physically helpless.”
In a post last month on her Facebook page, Gilman reported, “I've got 2months sober and I'm 31 weeks pregnant.” Gilman, the mother of two young children, has struggled with substance abuse for the past several years, according to other Facebook messages. (3 pages)

A Seattle woman has been charged with raping a man who told cops he awoke in his bed to find his attacker sexually assaulting him while she had his hands pinned down, according to a police report. Chantae Gilman, 26, was charged this week in connection with the alleged June 2013 attack inside the 31-year-old victim’s Seattle apartment. Gilman has prior felony convictions for attempted robbery and possession of a stolen vehicle, as well as several misdemeanor convictions, according to court records. As detailed in a probable cause affidavit prepared by a Seattle Police Department detective, the victim told cops that while he did not know Gilman, she was an acquaintance of another man who lives in his duplex. He described Gilman as “a drug user in the area.”

The Nigerian woman and the challenge of finding Mr Right - Alibaba

In this piece which he posted on his Facebook wall, comedian Alibaba
discusses the Nigerian woman and the challenges of finding Mr Right. Read below...
Much as I tried, to get her to rate me, she said, she can only rate someone who is on her radar. So ladies have relationship radar? Yes of course. You think you were not in Mary's radar, and she waited for you to come back after you... ? Ouch!!! (That was my guy who was listening in on our private conversation) I wasn't on Mary's radar.... I managed to mutter. Then she fooled you wellllll. She quickly added.
It got me thinking... What does a man need to show to get on any woman's radar? Money, sense of humor, fame, dress sense, good job, intelligence, good diction, good physique, some visible signs of affluence, confidence,... She let me continue for a while, raised her glass of Henessy VSOP, downed it, and said, "He must first be AVAILABLE. Then you can begin to check out the rest." So I asked, do I look available? She said, "Of course, to the people who do not care if you are married, you are very available! Not to me, OOO. Mary was my boss at Platinum. So that strikes you out." So I asked the next possible question, "so what can I do to look unavailable?" There is nothing. You are even an easy pick. She added. Any man who has a source of income, popular, dresses well, tall, handsome small sef, has a car, is in the circles of successful people, looks like he has potentials to become somebody important and can pay the bills...
Our conversation started having K-leg when she lit a cigar, not cigarette, Cuban cigar and started smoking. I took a good look at her, and realized that, these women who are looking for a MR Right all over Lagos, may just have met him but he is also looking for a woman who doesn't drink alcohol or smoke anything at all. That is the wahala. As you are looking for MR right, he might be dodging you because you are all shades of wrong...
While you are looking waiting for a guy to walk in and fit into your radar, you are doing some things that also confine you to the "never my type" hemisphere...
So, in conclusion, just as good men are hard to find, "manageable" ladies are unicorns!!!!
What is GOOSE for Uganda... Is GOOD for PERU
I have a serious matter at hand that I want to share. In fact, I should have shared this long ago, but the primary message from a friend that prompted the matter, was lost in between the series of inbox messages from those strange girls that are looking for romantic friendships on Facebook.
In a nutshell, a lady friend sent me an inbox message on how it's harder to find a good man in Nigeria. And that the men who are "manageable" (her words, not mine) are so scarce and if you ever get them they are either married to a lady that does not deserve them or just repenting from a bad marriage from one of such women. Or even just lost faith in the whole marriage thing. Continue...I later ran into her at a club. After the usual introductions that have become common place with these social media network of friends... (You are my friend on twitter, Facebook, Tango, INSTAGRAM... That kind of thing).... I chatted with her a bit and found out from what she told me, that, many women are now settling for anything in between MR Right, MR Not just ok and MR Nearly right. As she put it, it's now a case of looking at what a guy checks out in the top 10 box... And if he has 3 out of 10, snap him up... Work on the rest 7, if you are lucky, you can get him to add 3 more of those top10 qualities... And begin to pray it lasts for as long as you both can manage.
Much as I tried, to get her to rate me, she said, she can only rate someone who is on her radar. So ladies have relationship radar? Yes of course. by men of the Enugu state Police command for shooting his 65 year old
father, George Afonogu, dead.
According to Sunday Sun, Enugu state Police Commissioner, Mr Mohammed
Adamu, said 33 year old Chukwukezi attacked and killed his father on August 25th during arguement. The suspect said he became very angry after his father called him a mad man.
"I am an evangelist and a member of the Evergreen Believers Bible Ministry. Before this thing happened, I was having several quarrel with my late father. My father called me on that fateful day and asked me about an electrician that was supposed to work in the house and he gave me N500. My late father was a difficult person. The incident happened around 3.00pm. My father called me a "mad boy" and a quarrel ensued. I went inside the room and took my hunter's gun and shot him. I quickly carried him to a nearby bush and buried his corpse because nobody was at home. Immediately, I buried him, I ran away. My late father had eight children. The first born died and we have six girls and I am the only son" he said
Chukwukezi was apprehended by youths in the community who first beat him
to a pulp before handing him
over to the Oji River police officers. His mother is said to have run
away from the community after she learnt of what her son had done.
He is expected to be charged to court soon.

The
military’s efforts also got a boost yesterday when the federal government
announced the deployment of about 500 military personnel to combat the
insurgency in Adamawa, Yobe and Borno States.
Coordinator
of the National Information Centre (NIC) and Director General of National
Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr. Mike Omeri, confirmed the deployment at the
centre yesterday in Abuja.
Omeri said
the deployment was contrary to stories making the rounds, suggesting that there
was no military presence in the affected states.
He stated that normalcy had returned to Mubi and other cities claimed to have been taken over by the Boko Haram sect.
He stated that normalcy had returned to Mubi and other cities claimed to have been taken over by the Boko Haram sect.
“We just
have one issue today about reinforcement of military troops as part of the
effort to check the Boko Haram challenge in the country, the Nigerian military
has continued to enforce its presence in the challenged communities in the North-east,”
he said.
He added:
“Contrary to the media reports, the military has confirmed the new redeployment
of more than 500 troops to support the expectations around that area including
Gulak and Michika, among others.
“We believe
with this commitment and effort, the situation will be brought under
control."
According to Omeri, the situation report yesterday indicated that Mubi town was calm while troops including the police and other service personnel were on patrol in the area.
Residents: Military Has Not Recaptured Bama
However, despite the federal government and military’s claims on the recapture of Bama, a group of fleeing residents of the town yesterday said the military was telling half-truths by insisting it had recaptured Borno’s second largest city from the sect.
The residents, who have fled to Maiduguri as a result of the Boko Haram siege on the town, said contrary to the military’s claims, the town was still under the occupation of the insurgents.

The

addressing a press conference in Maiduguri, said despite the effort of the
military to push out the insurgents, they remained in control of the commercial
town.
Led by the chairman of BDF, Mallam Mohammed Hassan, the fleeing residents said on the attack which took place on September 1, the Nigerian army resisted the insurgents for several hours, but were however overpowered which led to the takeover of the town by the terrorists.

Hassan noted
that after the takeover of the second largest town in the state, several people
lost their lives, some were drowned in the River Yadzaram in the course of
fleeing while others were shot dead.
He said
apart from those in captivity that had no way of escaping, particularly women,
children and aged persons, many persons were still missing, displaced and had
been killed in nearby villages.
“As a matter
of fact, we are calling on the state and federal governments to expedite action
on reclaiming Bama from the hands of terrorists, as those in captivity are
under serious trauma, starvation and distress, with serious degrees of
injuries, while on the other hand, those that have lost their lives are yet to
be buried.
He appealed to the federal government to deploy more troops to Bama so that the people could go back and resettle in their communities.

The Defence
Headquarters (DHQ) has debunked the assertions by the Borno Elders’ Forum (BEF)
on Wednesday that Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, is under siege and has
been surrounded by Boko Haram terrorists, thereby causing panic amongst the
residents some of whom are alleged to have fled the city.
It has also
assured Nigerians that the ongoing offensive through sustained aerial
bombardment and complementary ground assault has helped to halt the terrorists’
advance with most of their structures and strongholds destroyed in North-east
towns like Gwoza, Bama, Michika and others.
DHQ was
responding to a news item yesterday in which the forum
announced that the Borno State capital had been surrounded by the insurgents
and called on the federal government to save the state and others in the
North-east from total destruction by the marauding sect.
The forum
had decried the horror, death, destruction and misery that had been visited on
North-eastern Nigeria and particularly Borno State by Boko Haram, warning that
the sect had strategised and completely surrounded the city of Maiduguri.
BEF further
warned that it was apparent that the sect’s imminent target was to take the
city of Maiduguri, noting that almost half of the population of Borno now
resides in Maiduguri.
However,
DHQ’s claim that Boko Haram had been uprooted from Bama was debuked by fleeing
residents from the town who alleged that the military was disseminating
half-truths about the true position of things in Borno’s second largest city.
This is just
as the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) group, 150 days after the kidnapping of over
200 schoolgirls by Boko Haram from Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno
State, yesterday called on the federal government to intensify efforts to
rescue the girls.
Reacting to
the statement by the Borno elders, the Director of Defence Information (DDI),
Major-General Chris Olukolade, in response to inquiries yesterday, said
such statements are designed to create a sense of insecurity in the city.
“The
statement on Maiduguri was clearly intended to cause panic in the city and the
nation,” Olukolade said.
He assured
Nigerians that “all facets of the security arrangements for the defence of
Maiduguri have been upgraded to handle any planned attack or attempt to disrupt
the prevailing peace in the city and its environs”.
According to
the Defence spokesman, “This kind of statement is alarmist and uncalled for in
view of the efforts and state of alertness.
“Citizens are nevertheless enjoined to remain vigilant as they go about their lawful businesses.”

DHQ, through
a statement on its twitter handle, further assured Nigerians that the military
had made crucial gains in the contested towns of Michika, Gamboru Ngala, Gwoza
and Mubi, amongst others.
The Defence
authorities said most of the affected areas had been stabilised and the
insurgents decimated.
According
to the statement @DefenceInfoNG: “UPDATE: Situation in Mubi, Michika, Bazza,
Gulak, Gwoza, Bama, Gamboru Ngala and other parts of the North-east is being
stabilized...as highly coordinated Air & Land OPs are ongoing.
“The efforts are yielding impressive results in the overall move to rid the areas of terrorists.”
